Purpose of Your Dark Passenger

Happy Friday, dark passengers!

It’s officially official. YourDarkPassenger.com is now the home of Your Dark Passenger. If you have the other site in your bookmarks, I’ll still be adding a monthly update to the site, but definitely bookmark and/or subscribe to this one for all the darkly delighting content you’ve come to expect from me.

So, what topics can you look forward to seeing in the near future on the new and improved Your Dark Passenger? Well…

In our cozy new home, we’re getting back to the roots of what the site was always meant to be. Dexter theorizes the dark passenger is this:

I’m Dexter, and I’m…not sure what I am.
I just know there’s something dark in me. I hide it. I certainly don’t talk about it. But it’s there. Always.
This dark passenger.
And when he’s driving, I feel…alive. Half sick with the thrill, complete wrongness. I don’t fight him. I don’t want to. He’s all I’ve got. Nothing else could love me, not even, especially not me.
Or is that just the lie the dark passenger tells me?

When I hear that (and you really should hear the way Michael C. Hall delivers the speech because it’s flawless), I begin to wonder if perhaps we all have a dark passenger living within us, a darkness that drives us to do things, think things, feel things we otherwise wouldn’t. Or is this a concept solely applicable to America’s favorite serial killer?

I think the answers is no.

I believe we all carry a dark passenger with us and we must endure a daily struggle for control of our very being. Of course, no, I do not believe our dark passengers necessarily compel us to become serial killers so that we can hunt other killers. That would be absurd…unless all my readers are serial killers…

Anyway. I don’t know what your particular dark passenger is unless you tell me – or I meet you in person and get to “read” you – so I’ll tell you a bit about the areas my dark passenger compels me to explore.

  • Paranormal and Supernatural Phenomena – I didn’t choose to go after this topic. It came to me. And I’m not one to duck and run, perhaps even when I should…
  • Serial Killers – I neither idolize serial killers nor do I admire their work. I do, however, have a deep fascination for the psychology of a serial killer. Unspeakable things happen to regular people more than we care to admit as a society, yet only a small part of the population goes on a serial killing spree as a result. What is it that makes them tick? I have to know.
  • Psychic Abilities and Empaths – If you know me at all, you know I have a special affinity to this subset of the paranormal because it has a direct effect on my life. Exploring my abilities as an Empath and helping others cope with their gifts will always be a hot topic on here.
  • Dexter - Hello? Show about a serial killer who kills other killers? See my rambling about serial killers if you still don’t get it. ;)
  • Conspiracy Theories – If you explore the paranormal for any length of time, you will find the two to be inexorably linked. Even when they don’t, the simultaneous paranoia and blindness displayed by either side of the issue is psychologically fascinating. Sometimes, it’s downright hilarious. (If you remember my old Swine Flu Conspiracy post, you know what I mean.)
  • Mental Illness – On the surface, this category makes more sense with the nature of a dark passenger than the other categories. Upon closer inspection, you learn that paranormal manifestations are easy to confuse for mental illness in an individual.

But what else? When you hear the term dark passenger, what topics spring to your mind? How does it make you feel when you consider the nature of your own dark passenger? Tell me about what you want to explore on this site. After all, it is Your Dark Passenger.
